Most commonly found in sculptures, the Pieta is a subject in Christian art that depicts the dead body of Jesus being cradled by the Virgin Mary.

The Pieta caroza is only one of many that participate in the annual solemn procession to celebrate the Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Bantayan Island, Cebu, the Philippines. The caroza wounds around a designated route in the poblacion amidst a multitude of devotees. It completes the journey as it passes in front of the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Church by early evening.
